The Amazon Buy Box - When you have multiple competitors for the same product that you sell, winning the buy box will enable you to get the attention of potential buyers and thus higher sales. Amazon awards the Buy Box to the seller who has the product listed usually at the best price along with other factors.
We know that 83% of all sales made on Amazon are made through the Buy Box. Having a Buy Box increases the probability of sale of your product. But, since there's vast competition among retailers on Amazon, only the best of the best can win it.
Amazon is well known for its customer-oriented mentality and has done the best it could to preserve the rights of customers. It owes a great deal of its popularity to such a customer policy. The Amazon Buy Box is a complex and multi-faceted system. Amazon gives a lot of control to third-party sellers and you should always try to take full advantage of its incredible potential. Thus, finding the optimal pricing point by analyzing the market share for every product is crucial and challenging.

1.Monitor Buy Box winner every day:
DataHawk gives you the names of sellers winning the Buy Box in a calendar format where you can view who won the Buy Box on which dates. By selecting the range of time by simply clicking on the “date” you can quickly start analyzing the Buy Box metrics.
For instance, we have tracked the “Roku Ultra | HD/4K/HDR Streaming Media Player” in the electronics category for one month, from 7Jan2020 to 7Feb2020. The seller “M-X-C Tech '' won the buy box on 7Feb20. Similarly, there were Tech&Beyond, Direct Distributor& Happy Ranger who were awarded the Buy Box on the other respective dates.
DataHawk allows you to monitor the available product quantity that's available for purchase from the Buy Box, with a maximal trackable quantity of 30 units. This is done through the metric we call "Buy Box Available Quantity" that can be seen in a Product Metrics page on DataHawk. If a product has less than 30 units that are available for purchase, as reflected by the seller winning the Buy Box, then the tool allows you to monitor this sort of inventory availability on a winning-seller-basis. Here, we can see the available quantity is 3 for ”Tech & Beyond” which is quite low in comparison with the previous day winner “Direct Distributor” with 30 SKUs. This indicates clearly that there could be different factors at the same time contributing to winning a Buy Box, for example, inventory, shipment, seller history, etc.
2. Monitor Buy Box winning price variations
The “Price” row on the tabular presentation projects the different winning prices for which different sellers have won the Buy Box for a product on different days.
Taking the same example, We see that, on Jan25 2020 “Direct Distributor” had won the Buy Box for $72.69, whereas the same seller, had a winning price of $71.99 on Feb05 2020 with a price variance of $3.10 in this time period. M-X-C Tech won the Buy Box on 7Feb20 with $69.90 which apparently is the lowest reported price for the product in this time range. It is very important to ensure that your pricing is affordable.
We have also monitored the pricing on average for a week. It was found that the average price for “Roku Ultra | HD/4K/HDR Streaming Media Player” the 3rd week, that is from Jan21 2020 to Jan26 2020, is $72.89 and the sellers have been ranked as follows.
3.Measure Buy Box pricing trends
With all the different metrics for Buy Box analysis present on the same page, you could also analyze the price trends for the tracked product. Here, you can monitor the average price, price range, and price variance by each seller.
The average price of “Direct Distributor” is $72.21. With the given price range, their price variance is $3.0 which is one of the highest amongst all the winners. This indicates that price variance definitely plays an important role in determining the win rate with all the other factors considered.
“Direct Distributor” has the highest feedback count amongst all the above sellers. Accompanied by all the other factors, 95% positive feedback in the last 12 months and a rating score of 4129 somewhere justifies the highest win rate of this seller.
4. Monitor changes in Buy Box number of sellers:
The tool allows you to track the change in the number of sellers which is updated on a daily basis.
As recorded on 10 Feb 2020 there are 15 sellers winning the box which is 2 more than that on 7 Feb 2020 with NexiPC and Best Products Prime joining the list with the same winning price as that of the previous 2 winners.
We also monitored that this product has 84 sellers on Amazon out of which only 15 sellers have made it in the last one month.
5. Monitor Buy Box win rates per seller
